How to Add Products, Variations & Categories in WooCommerce

Whether you’re launching a simple store or a full multi-category shop, understanding how to add products, variations, and categories is essential. This guide walks you through every step with a clean, beginner-friendly workflow that works for any WooCommerce store.

1

How to Create Product Categories in WooCommerce

Organize your store professionally before adding products.

Categories make your online store easier to browse and help customers find products faster. They also improve SEO.

Create categories:

  1. Go to Products → Categories
  2. Enter a Category Name (example: Men’s Clothing)
  3. Enter a Slug (optional)
  4. Add a Category Image (recommended)
  5. Click Add New Category

You can create unlimited categories and subcategories such as:

  • Clothing → Men → Shirts
  • Electronics → Mobiles → Accessories

Creating categories before adding products saves time and keeps things organized.

  5. Add terms: S, M, L, XL

Step 2 — Assign Attributes to Product

  1. Edit your product

Add tags from the right sidebar under Product Tags.
